Giving Back: An Antidote for Crisis
Recently, it seems as if each new year has kicked off with a natural disaster of epic proportions. There have been tsunamis, earthquakes, and ravaging fires. This year, we’ve been watching the horific footage of the fires raging through the Los Angeles area, feeling a sense of deja vous as our hearts ache for those who have lost everything. For it was just a short couple of months ago that we were feeling the same heartbreak for the victims of the epic storms in western North Carolina. It’s a pattern that will obviously continue, and it’s a stark reminder that “community is an antidote for crisis.”
For 20 years, our small local business has made supporting efforts to assist those in need within our community an integral part of our business operations. When we first opened our doors, we designated Friday evenings as a time to give back by committing to set aside a portion of proceeds from Friday night sales to be donated to a featured local charity each quarter. From organizations that provide housing and feed the hungry to animal rescue groups, disaster relief efforts, and programs that assist those facing a diverse array of challenges, we are thankful to have been able to provide financial support totaling approximately $60,000 to dozens of non-profit organizations that serve the Charleston community. We wish we could do more.
In 2024, with the help of our customers, we were able to donate a total of approximately $7,000 to the following non-profit organizations:
Rescued in SC, a small but mightly local organization that provides care and helps find homes for local pets
Lowcountry Local First, which provides support and programming for struggling local businesses
Lowcountry Autisim Foundation, a valuable local resource for families living with autism
Southern Smoke Foundation, which is providing resources for food and beverage workers in Western North Carolina who were impacted by Hurricane Helene
We’re kicking off 2025 by raising money for Ben’s Friends this quarter. This Charleston-based organization provides support for workers in the food and beverage industry nationwide who are dealing with substance abuse. With many people starting off the year trying to establish better habits, we thought it would be a good time to shed light on this invaluable local non-profit that seeks to help members of the F&B community work through the crisis of substance abuse. To learn more and to help contribute towards our fundraising efforts for Ben’s Friends, please join us for Friday Night Dinner now through March.
Thank you for your support!
